Catalogues - Tomatoes - Pear, Plum and Patio Types

Our catalogues list the main plants that we grow, but at the farm stand you will often find plants not listed online. If you have questions about what these other varieties are or about how to grow them, please contact us.

Pear Type

Red Pear

RED PEAR
This very old heirloom (predates 1800) produces an abundance of red pear shaped tomatoes. Indeterminate, prolific vines tend to sprawl all over with large clusters of fruit. Make sure to give this one a lot of space or be prepared with lots of vertical stakes to tie onto.

Yellow Pear

YELLOW PEAR
Small, pear-shaped novelty tomatoes. Golden-yellow, sweet and low acid. Sprawling vining plants are high-yielding all summer. Plants are best staked and tied to keep fruit off the ground. Perfect for fresh eating, garnishes, drying and salads.

Plum Type

Black Plum

BLACK PLUM
Heavy production of rich, sweet, elongated 3 in. plum-shaped fruit. Outstanding eaten fresh, cooked in sauces or paste, or dried. Has a rich, smoky sweetness and a touch of zippy tartness. A gorgeous sight when the plant is hung heavily with clusters of these pretty fruit.

Red Plum RED PLUM
Very sweet, oval shaped, cherry-red fruit. Early maturing, very prolific — constantly producing until frost. Hard to keep your kids off them! Fruit are more of a paste than juicy type, but are still great for fresh eating as well as for cooking and drying. Indeterminate.
Principe Borghese

PRINCIPE BORGHESE
High yields of smaller plum-shaped tomatoes. The best variety for sun-dried tomatoes and good flavour for fresh eating, too. An excellent choice for container growing. Semi- determinate plants produce mid-season. No shoulders. No cracking.

Patio Type

Alicante

ALICANTE
Award of Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society, UK. A fine English variety prized for mid-season production of uniformly round, bright red, 2 in. fruits. Thin-skinned, sweet, juicy tomatoes for salads and fresh eating. A reliable performer. Sturdy semi-determinate plants need good staking. No cracking or shoulders.

Silvery Fir

SILVERY FIR
Very unique wispy foliage. A great ornamental plant that is not out of place in a flowerbed. Does well in hanging baskets or a pot on the patio. The earliest yields of large round red tomatoes with surprisingly good flavour. Unique, finely divided ‘ferny’ foliage most unusual. Sturdy three-foot tall, bushy determinate plants are great for container growing outside. Worth growing for large, early, good-tasting tomatoes.

Tiny Tim

TINY TIM
Extremely early miniature cherry tomato. Each scarlet red fruit is less than 1 oz. Plant reaches 15-24 in. in height and will be chocked-full of small, firm fruit. Perfect for decorating salads and vegetable trays — or just popping straight into your waiting mouth!

Other good varieties for growing in patio containers include: Yellow Perfection, and any of the Plum, Salad, Pear and Cherry type tomatoes.
