Our catalogues list the main plants that we grow, but at the farm stand you will often find plants not listed online. If you have questions about what these other varieties are or about how to grow them, please contact us.
Why are Metchosin Farm tomato plants superior?
- They are all inoculated with a beneficial micchorizal fungi which gives the plants much greater access to nutrients and water, resulting in an average growth and production improvement of 30-40%.
- The majority are grown from my own seed, raised here in our wind-tunnel and frost pocket of Metchosin. These plants are slowly adapting for our coastal climate and grow more successfully than plants from seed grown away from here.
- These tomatoes are organically grown in our own compost mix. This also sometimes gives you 'bonus' plants that we haven't weeded out. So keep your eyes open for lettuce, chard, purple orach, tomatillos and other 'volunteers' in your tomato pot!
